Copyright Wars on the Web!
We fully support the copyright
protections offered by the laws of the United States and
Internationally. The concept of copyright has survived
challenges for more than a hundred years, and is generally based upon
common sense approaches to creative expression.
However, in recent years, a number of
groups have forced new laws, as well as are using the courts, to
create a climate of absolute fear regarding copyrights.
When it was introduced, the Digital
Millennium Copyright Act was supposed to be the Copyright Act Ver.
2.0, but instead it represents the most predatory approach to shutting
down creative expression in the explosion of the Web!
We strongly urge you to write to your
congress person and ask them to amend the DMCA to exempt
Non-commercial uses, to continue the expansion of human creativity and
knowledge that the web represents.
We believe that in most cases,
non-commercial use (where no income is derived, no products or
services or political positions or personalities endorsed, where no
damages in excess of $250 can be established) that web images may be
used by others (except where such use violates trademarks, or other
law). We believe that a 12 year old should be able to use a
picture of their favorite band on their personal website, and not risk
a jail term for that use!
Let's either fix this law, or get rid
of it!
In an era of increasing uncertainty
about our homeland security, our personal financial security, and the
security of our computing infrastructure, we all have better things to
do than worry about a borrowed bullet graphic used in a PowerPoint
presentation, or a picture of an Angel on some grandmother's Yahoo
website!
